About Us
41 Lumber has six locations in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. We can deliver to almost any job site in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and Northern Wisconsin. 41 Lumber is the primary dealer in the U.P. for products like Taylor Entry Doors, Kemper Echo, Kemper and Decora Cabinets, Windows by Unlimited Vinyl Windows and Amvic Insulated Concrete Forms. We stock complete lines of lumber and building materials for any of your projects whether big or small.
Our biggest advantage is our people. We have three Kitchen Specialists in the company who can design a kitchen to meet your needs and wants while offering expert advice and suggestions to make your kitchen truly unique. We have seven Salesmen who are State of Michigan Licensed Residential Builders -- guys who know how to build and solve problems with years of experience to back it up. Our Inside Staff receives training on all of the newest products and applications. No other lumber yard in the U.P. can bring the level of expertise to your project like 41 Lumber can. The longevity of the company is a tribute to the dedicated, knowledgeable, hardworking employees of the company who over the years have served industry, contractors, carpenter contractors, and do-it-yourselfers well.
- 1925 Edward A Hamar and Albert W. Quandt purchased the Pryor Lumber Company and renamed it Hamar Quandt Company. It consisted of several large warehouses and a multi-purpose building, with a large band saw for resawing timbers for the local mines, a planer, a profiler, and shop to manufacture windows and doors.
- 1929 opened a yard in Laurium to serve the north end of the Keweenaw Peninsula and the local copper mines.
- 1940 opened a yard in Ontonagon. This yard introduced the company to contracting, building the pilot mine shaft housing and twelve small houses for the White Pine Copper Mine. When copper prices declined in the 1960’s, the yard was closed.
- 1975 opened a yard in Marquette and named it 41 Lumber.
- 1976 rebuilt the Laurium yard and the company was renamed 41 Lumber.
- 1980 moved the company headquarters to Quinnesec, MI where it opened a yard and distribution center.
- 1985 moved the Houghton Yard from the original Pryor location to East US41 in Houghton.
- 1991 purchased Ed’s Building Supply on US 2 & 41 in Escanaba
- 2003 purchased Falls Building Supply in Newberry and Munising Building Center in Munising
- 2005 Purchased Delta Do-It Center in Escanaba and consolidated the existing 41 Lumber location to the Delta Do-It site on US 2 & 41
